Red Tomatoes and Red Buses

This weekend is Heritage Weekend across the country with lots of interesting buildings open to the public. I spotted this lovely old bus in Northampton town centre this morning , it was doing 'heritage tours ' of the town. It was parked in front of our beautiful Guildhall. I regularly walk past it without giving it much of a thought but today it looked splendid in the September sunshine.

There was also an antiques market held in or historic market square, it was lovely to see the market bustling with people in the sunshine. We used to have regular antiques markets but they stopped some years ago so this was quite a treat. I managed to find a blackbird pie funnel. I have wanted one of these for years and he has already been given a home amongst my other treasures on my kitchen dresser shelves.
This afternoon I have picked more tomatoes from the garden. We seem to have a never ending supply at the moment and a range of varieties including some of the unusual stripy ones. I always use some to make batches of tomato puree and tomato soup to freeze.

I love red double decker buses. So English! When we came back from Canada to live here when I was a child, I really looked forward to seeing those, and pillar boxes, oooh and red telephone boxes! Loving those tomatoes too! Suize. xxx

Didn't realise this was going on in Northampton today, looks great!! I went to Northampton one Tuesday, and was shocked to see that the bric a brac market isn't there any more. I worked in Northampton for years, and loved going to the Tuesday Market!
What recipe do you use for your soup? Looks yummy!!

Hi Sharon, the antiques market is starting again one Thursday a month , today was re-launching it. The soup is just tomatoes and a few herbs. I sieve it and then add cream to taste, you can add a little sugar if it is too sharp.

Hi Annie,
You have done well with the tomatoes! Mine are getting a bit over now and looking a tad raggedy.

I remember going on just such a lovely vintage double decker bus in Northampton when friends of mine were married there, must be ten years ago now. There are some lovely buildings, she was married in a gorgeous church.
Thanks you for the kind words about the tea cosies. I'll have to whip up a few for my stall! Look forward to meeting you in November.

Double Deckers are brilliant. A real symbol of London I always think.
