Little Green Man

Let me introduce the latest resident of the green W.I. cabinet, he is a cute little bisque figure I found when I was over at the Brackley Antiques Cellar yesterday and he fits in perfectly with the other residents of the cupboard.

On Saturday morning Mr C was up bright and early and headed off to a sale in aid of our local dog rehoming charity Jerry Green. He came back laden with goodies including this fabulous 1950s frilly pinnie with a christmasy design which is very Cath Kidston in style. It is now hanging in our stall at Brackley. The picture above is a detail of a lovely needlepoint clutch bag he found.

The little 1960s wooden dolls cot was a find at our local re-cycling shop, I took it over to our stall yesterday as it would make a lovely Christmas present for a little girl.

Pretty brooches seem to be popular stocking fillers.

We have tried to make our little space look festive with vintage glass baubles and decorations.

Back to Saturday and more of Mr C's finds including the lovely old faded Union Jack and beautiful 1920s chenille door curtain. When he took me back later I found the old Mabel Lucie Attwell print in it's original frame and the cute silk scarves with scottie dogs and poodles.

I love hyacinths at any time of year but somehow they seem even more special on cold dark days in December. I guess I need to start thinking about Christmas decorations now as reading so many of your lovely blogs this weekend I can see I am way behind on the festive front.

Vintage Books

After reading Tamzin's latest post about her tin collection over at The Little Vintage Company blog I decided to share a few of my collections. I thought I would start with books. Anyone who knows me knows my house is coming down with books of all kinds. I have books everywhere and my new cupboard is now crammed with books. I have put some of my vintage books at the front because their covers are too lovely to be hidden from view.

I didn't intend to use the cupboard for books but for now that's what it holds. I am still debating whether to take the paintbrush to it but will live with it for a while.

The stained glass doors match the windows above .

I love old annuals for the pictures on the covers.

The annual in the basket is one of my favourites, it has a great picture of a vintage caravan on the front.

The Josephine books have beautiful illustrations by Honor C Appleton. The Mabel Lucie Attwell illustrated Water Babies was a charity shop find some years ago.

Last weekend we went to Birmingham for the first time in a few years and I had a good look round the Cath Kidston sale in Selfridges.

I couldn't resist the miniature basket and the little cases. They were all in the sale and although I know they are meant to be for children I couldn't resist them knowing I would put them to use as storage for something.

Birmingham really has a lot to offer these days including some amazing architecture and a talking bull outside the Bullring shopping centre!

Thoughts Of Spring

After the wintery weather of the last few weekends it has felt great this weekend getting out and about again in a bit of sunshine. I have managed to squeeze in a bit of flea market and indoor boot sale shopping both days. Our Easter Vintage Fair is fast approaching and I need to start gathering some pretties together for my stall. I seem to have been drawn to things that remind me of Spring, flowers and birds and pastel colours.
I couldn't resist the little lamp with a patchwork of vintage fabric on the shade. I also love the pretty traveling coat hanger case complete with hangers. The rose table mats were destined for my stall but seem to have found a little spot in my kitchen already.

See what the postman brought

I just had to share with you the lovely bits of ephemera that have just arrived on my doormat. As you know I love anything from the 20s and 30s was excited about receiving these wonderful bridge tally cards. I spotted them in the lovely Etsy shop Redheadvintagepaper (well worth a visit)and spent ages deliberating over which to have. Yesterday they finally arrived having travelled all the way from America. They have a temporary home on my kitchen dresser while I consider where to put them.

Then, this morning some lovely scraps arrived of cute little 1920s children, very Mabel Lucie Attwell like. They all have googly eyes which give them rather startled expressions !
