Advice Needed And Latest Vintage Finds

A few weeks ago I went to a local table top sale and spotted this old standard lamp. My mother in law has been on about wanting a traditional style standard lamp for ages and as this was in full working order and literally only a couple of pounds I bought it for her. I bet you can guess what happened next. I got it home and decided I actually quite liked it. I started imagining it with the shade re-covered in a nice Cath Kidston fabric and the wooden stand painted in a pretty Farrow and Ball shade. Do you think I am completely losing the plot ? Is it as hideous as my daughter would have me believe ? How easy is it to re-cover a shade or to get it re-covered by someone skilled at that sort of thing ? Advice needed please.

These cups and saucers were a charity shop find last week. I bought them to use in the tea room at the vintage fair but have actually started using them and rather like the pink and green design. I seem to be drawn towards combinations of pink and green.

This is a lovely old silk laundry bag in the palest pink, decorated with pink rosebuds. When I bought it I thought I would re-use the fabric but I can't bear to cut it up.

I spotted these pretty cardboard drawers at the weekend, they once held Terry's chocolates. The tin was a charity shop find at the weekend. All of these treasures will be coming with me to the vintage fair.

These 1930s and 40s handkerchiefs have wonderful, colourful designs on them.

I love the colourful handpainted dots on these buttons, not sure how I am going to use them yet.

Gorgeous finds Ann. I bought a standard lamp last year and couldn't work out how to cover the shade. In the end I bought a shade covered in an antique mangle cloth! Gorgeous girl thinks it's gross. Maybe I should photograph it and share it!

I would have swooped on those hankies!
The buttons are lovely too. Maybe you could make some brooches and pick out the colours in the buttons?!
I look forward to seeing what you do with that lamp!!

I think the lampstand is lovely. Deserves a new shade though! The buttons are wonderful too. I remember my mum getting a box of chocolates with drawers in the box. We kids were fascinated - chocolates in a drawer! xx

That standard lamp will look fabulous with a new shade and a coat of paint! I did make a lampshade many moons ago.Once you have taken off the old material you will be left with the metal frame.Wind fabric tape around the spokes of the frame. Then you can use paper to make templates of each section of the frame. Then lay these over your chosen material and cut around them. Iron on fabric stiffener to each section..can't remember the name of this... and then glue gun them on to your frame. You can then edge with braiding or bobbles or whatever you fancy!

Hey there,

Love your finds, the hand painted buttons are really cute.

I can see why you fell in love with the Lamp. I would love one in our dinning room. I have seen lamp shade covers I presume you just place it over the existing one. But not too sure how you go about it. But I would of thought google might point you in the right direction.

Look forward to seeing what you do with it.

Hi
Love your standard lamp,I bought one last year
and painted it bright red then did a patchwork out of vintage fabrics on the shade. It turned out lovely, I just wish I had a photo of it to show you.Sadly I sold it just before Christmas.
Take care
